FAHP Participates in Florida Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Legislative Fly-In
Brittney Hunt, CEO of the Florida Association of Health Plans, recently took part in a legislative panel on health care during the Florida Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Legislative Fly-In on Wednesday, January 14.
During the discussion, Hunt emphasized how stable, affordable coverage is essential to Florida’s ability to attract employers, support workforce participation, and maintain a competitive business climate.
A key focus of the panel was the importance of Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs) in sustaining affordability in the individual marketplace. Hunt highlighted how millions of Floridians, particularly small business owners, self-employed individuals, and workers in tourism, hospitality, and other industries without employer-sponsored coverage, rely on these credits to access health insurance; and how the potential expiration of EPTCs would significantly increase premiums for many Floridians, threatening coverage stability and increasing the uninsured rate within the state.
The conversation also addressed the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care. Hunt emphasized that AI, when used responsibly, can support care coordination, reduce administrative burden, and help health plans manage costs, while maintaining strong safeguards, transparency, and human oversight. Panelists agreed that thoughtful, data-driven policy is essential to ensure AI enhances access and affordability rather than creating new barriers.
Throughout the discussion, Hunt underscored Florida’s success with a competitive, private-market-driven health care system, noting that collaboration among health plans, employers, providers, and policymakers has helped preserve consumer choice, encourage innovation, and avoid market disruption. Predictable, stable policy – rather than one-size-fits-all mandates – remains critical to keeping coverage affordable for employers and Florida’s families alike.
FAHP on AI – Getting to “Yes” Faster
The Florida Association of Health Plans appeared before the Florida House Health & Human Services Committee on December 11, where CEO Brittney Hunt outlined how Florida’s health plans are incorporating artificial intelligence into their operations.
During the presentation, FAHP highlighted how health plans are using language-based AI tools to streamline administrative processes, reduce delays, and improve member services, while maintaining clear boundaries around clinical decision-making.
“Operational efficiency is not just about speeding up processes, it’s about removing barriers that stand between patients and the care they need – it’s all about getting to ‘yes’ faster,” said Hunt.
FAHP emphasized that AI is being used to automate routine tasks such as form processing, data collection, and prior authorization support, allowing clinicians and care teams to focus more time on patients.
Importantly, the association reiterated that all medical necessity determinations continue to be made by licensed clinicians, and no FAHP member uses AI to issue adverse benefit decisions.
